Arthur R. Boddy, 75, died at 12:56 a.m. Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes.

Born Oct. 17, 1932, in Elmer, Mich., he was the son of Rodan and Nellie Felicia (Long) Boddy.

He served his country from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

He was graduated from Yale (Mich.) High School in 1950. Graduating from Purdue University in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, he was a registered professional engineer in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Kentucky. In 1961, he, along with Bob Elliott and Jim Burch, purchased Midwestern Engineers of Loogootee, Ind. He retired in 1997, but remained active in company business until the time of his death.

In July 1972, he was honored as a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Ind. Gov. Evan Bayh.

An active member of the Washington community since 1961, he was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and served there on numerous committees and was chairman of the church trustees.

He was a member of the Daviess County Community Foundation Board, Charity Lodge No. 30 F.&A.M., Retired Senior and Family Services, Daviess County Family YMCA Board of Directors, and he was also a trustee at the YMCA. He worked with Junior Achievement at North Elementary and for the Daviess County Airport Board.

He was dedicated to his family, an avid bridge player and horseman.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Madden) Boddy, whom he married on Feb. 21, 1952. He is also survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Paula Fitzsimons and Steve Larsen of Washington; Debra and Mark Ryan of Bloomington; Nancy Benjamin, and Brenda and Scott Rainey, all of Washington. There are eight grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Jennifer Fitzsimons, attending Mitchell Community College in North Carolina; Rita Eblin of Washington; Chelsey Ryan attending Purdue University; Erin Eblin attending Vincennes University; Jacob and Lucas Benjamin, Sara Eblin and Laura Rainey, all of Washington. Also, two step-grandsons, Matthew and Larry Rainey, survive.

Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Mary Boddy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a sister, Felicia Ferguson of Melvin, Mich., and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Boddy of Sterling Heights, Mich. Also, several nieces and nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Patrick and brother, Chuck Boddy.

Visitation will be at Christ United Methodist Church on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Masonic service at 2 p.m. Friends may call again after 9 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Lennie Lawrence will officiate. Graveside services, including military honors by the American Legion and VFW, will be at Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Daviess County Community Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
